masterclass with 2 concerts
September 9 – 14, 2024

A unique 6-day intensive conducting masterclass with 2 concerts with Maestro Tomáš Koutník will take place from September 9 to 14, 2024. Two public concerts are held in Mariánské Lázně and in Prague. The program is focused on working with conducting students and young professionals. Participants work with a full – size professional orchestra. Masterclass held in the most beautiful spa Mariánské Lázně in the Czech Republic, where the famous Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin also spent time.

Participants will have a first preparatory lesson accompanied by a professional pianist. The next days of the course are already taking place in front of the orchestra. The student receives analytical feedback from the lecturer directly during the rehearsal and subsequently also during the analysis of the recorded video from the rehearsal. All active participants will have the opportunity to perform at two professional final concerts, which are recorded on video and audio for further study purposes, competitions and masterclasses.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation (including passive participants).

The participants will choose 3 pieces of music from the mentioned repertoire, which they will prepare in advance. Participants will get their own scores.

Each active participant will receive:
• 1 day preliminary rehearsals with piano accompaniment
• 120 minutes podium time with the orchestra
• each Active Participant will perform a dress rehearsal and 2 final public concerts
• attendance at all meetings and rehearsals
• All participants will receive a certificate of participation (including passive participants)

About

the Place

The entire masterclass takes place in a unique culturally and historically significant building called Lesní mlýn in Mariánské Lázně, where there is a space for rehearsals, the possibility of accommodation (everyone pays for their own expenses) and also a concert hall. There is also a wonderful cafe and restaurant. The entire masterclass is professionally organized by the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra of Mariánské Lázně.

The Czech Republic has many professional orchestras at a high level. The Mariánské Lázně Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest professional full size orchestras in the Czech Republic.
